Adore is a Green Circle Salon, what does that actually mean?
The beauty industry creates a surprising amount of waste. Items like hair clippings, used foils, excess hair color, chemical waste, color tubes, aerosol cans, and plastics from product packaging often cannot be recycled through regular city recycling programs. In fact, it’s estimated that millions of pounds of salon waste end up in landfills every year simply because there hasn’t traditionally been a system in place to recover and reuse those materials responsibly.
That’s where Green Circle Salons comes in.
Green Circle Salons is a sustainability program specifically designed for the beauty industry. It provides salons with a structured system to collect, separate, and responsibly recycle or repurpose the waste created during salon services. Instead of throwing these materials away, they are gathered and sent to specialized facilities where they can be recovered and transformed into new uses.
Here’s how it works inside the salon:
During services, our team separates waste into different containers depending on the material. Hair clippings, used foils, excess hair color, color tubes, plastics, and even leftover chemicals are collected rather than disposed of in the regular trash. Once collected, these materials are packaged and shipped through the Green Circle Salons program to facilities that specialize in waste recovery.
From there, these materials are processed in several innovative ways.
For example, hair clippings can be repurposed to help clean oil spills or made into biodegradable materials used in agriculture and environmental cleanup projects. Metals like foils and color tubes are melted down and recycled into new metal products. Plastics and packaging are processed into new materials that can be reused in manufacturing. Even unused or leftover hair color and chemicals are safely converted into clean energy through waste-to-energy processes, preventing them from contaminating water systems or landfills.
The goal is simple but powerful: recover as much salon waste as possible and keep it out of landfills and waterways.
By participating in this program, salons can divert up to 95% of their beauty waste from landfills. That means dramatically reducing pollution, conserving natural resources, and lowering the environmental impact of everyday beauty services.
What makes this program especially meaningful is that it allows clients to continue enjoying the services they love while also contributing to a more sustainable beauty industry. Small changes—like recycling foils, recovering hair clippings, and properly processing leftover color—add up to a significant environmental impact when done across thousands of salons.
